Objective
Develop an instrument to measure care integration within the cardio-cerebrovascular services pathway from the patients’ perspective.
Methods
A systematic literature review and free search identified surveys and scales measuring patient-perceived care integration. Items fitting the integration construct and suitable for the Colombian context and for quality improvement actions were selected to develop an instrument. A panel of experts reviewed the first version for content validity. After adjustments, a pilot test with fourteen patients evaluated clarity and appropriateness.
Results
The initial instrument included 18 items from 7 surveys and 10 new items developed by the researchers. Experts confirmed the instrument validity and adjusted phrasing and response options to better represent the local context. Pilot testing led to minor wording and response options clarifications. The final instrument includes 28 Likert-scale items.
Conclusion
We developed an instrument for measuring care integration in the cardiocerebrovascular pathway from the patients’ perspective, drawn from the international literature and adapted to the local context.
