Budget transparency and community evidence are critical components in addressing healthcare fragmentation and public spending gaps. From June 1–5, 2026, our partners in India hosted the 3rd Budget Training Fellowship Workshop in Nagwain, Himachal Pradesh, bringing together 11 fellows alongside experienced mentors and advisors for an intensive five-day capacity-building retreat.

Translating Community Data into Spending Priorities

The workshop provided a collaborative space to deepen participants’ technical understanding of state- and district-level health budgets. Key areas of focus included:

• Navigating public expenditure: Analyzing local budget allocations to identify gaps in healthcare funding.
• Evidence-based advocacy: Demonstrating how community-generated data can directly inform and shape public spending priorities.
• Strategic communication: Refining techniques for translating complex fellowship insights into actionable messaging for policymakers, civil society networks, and local stakeholders.

By equipping researchers and advocates with strong fiscal analysis tools, initiatives like the Budget Training Fellowship help ensure that public health funds are directed where they are needed most.
